The erosion collapse hit the Lakeview neighborhood on 14 April. My home was one of 62 damaged, and 13 families are still in temporary shelter at the community hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $1,200 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $560 • Clean water and purification supplies: $110 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $170 • Food parcels for displaced families: $270 • Tools and labor for repairs: $90 Thank you for reading my story. - Uche

Updates from Uche

  1. Quick update: $399 raised so far (33%). we've started the first stage. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($309 in total) I made the first payment toward tools and labor for repairs. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Update from Epe: the plan for food parcels for displaced families is now scheduled. We're at 21% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  • Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Love from Nha Trang

    • you're not alone, Uche. Shared it with a few friends. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out.

      • Thanks for sharing this, Uche. Hope you get there. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best.

        • Sending love, Uche. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. God bless.

Keep going. More neighborhoods should do this. My husband and I read this together. Thinking of Epe.

            • I hope things turn around soon. I hope July is when things finally get easier.

              • Wishing you the best, Uche. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Take care.
