Emergency hernia repair for Zawadi: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled emergency hernia repair in April is out of reach without help covering $800 of the cost.

Zawadi was diagnosed with a hip fracture that never healed properly in January. The surgeon at Kinondoni Orthopedic Institute recommended emergency hernia repair, and She is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,350, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $800 short.
my wife has been in and out of Kinondoni Orthopedic Institute since January. The doctors say a hip fracture that never healed properly will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,350 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Zawadi struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Zawadi won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $800 goes:
• Travel and lodging for the family: $35
• Hospital stay (2 nights): $230
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $450
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $75
• Post-operative medication: $10
I hope life is good to you.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Zawadi.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. travel and lodging for the family is the biggest at $35. Thanks for looking so closely.
Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Thinking of Kinondoni
thanks for sharing this. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Wish I lived closer to Mombasa so I could bring a meal.
Thanks for sharing this. Shared this with my family. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Greetings from Guadalajara
So sorry you're going through this, Ssebuliba. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from Łódź.
rooting for you, Ssebuliba. Look after yourselves too, caregivers need rest. God bless.
It takes guts to ask. Well done. I have a 17 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.
You're not alone. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best
Thinking of you and your family. Looking forward to the next update. After 27 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Blessings.
Hope it all works out. Looking forward to the next update. Love from Mar del Plata!
