ACL reconstruction for Sergio: covering what insurance won't
Sergio needs ACL reconstruction at Saint Mary Hospital and the family is $1,600 short of the hospital's estimate.

Sergio was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in January. The surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended ACL reconstruction, and He is scheduled for March. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,650, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,600 short.
my son has been in and out of Saint Mary Hospital since January. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,650 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Sergio struggles with daily life and can't drive. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Sergio won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,600 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,150
• Post-operative medication: $180
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $270

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Sergio.
Sure. The biggest one is surgeon and anesthesia fees, $1,150. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one.
