Emergency hernia repair for Samuel: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled emergency hernia repair in July is out of reach without help covering $7,300 of the cost.

Samuel was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in May. The surgeon at Bakersfield Regional Medical Center recommended emergency hernia repair, and He is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $7,300 short.
my son has been in and out of Bakersfield Regional Medical Center since May. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without emergency hernia repair. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,750 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Samuel struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Samuel won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
