I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a diploma in hospitality management at Iztapalapa Community College, and I'm one term away from graduating. I have worked as a library assistant to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $850.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a distinction average, and my faculty supervisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Iztapalapa Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $850 goes:
• Final term tuition: $680
• Textbooks and materials: $80
• Exam and lab fees: $90
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Keep going, Elena. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn. Thinking of Iztapalapa
As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn. After 21 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Cali.
Wishing you peace, Elena. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Love from Johannesburg!
