Electricity shut-off notice: help Lungile pay $150

Lungile is behind on electricity bills after losing my job in June and needs $150 to avoid a shut-off.

The electricity account is 2 months behind. I received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on November unless I pay $150. I have never been late before losing my job in June. I called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $40 first, which I don't have. I live with a disabled brother, and going through the cold months without electricity isn't safe. We would also lose the ability to run the medical equipment at home. I'm working on getting back on my feet, and will pay forward whatever help I can once I'm steady. Every dollar goes to the account in Lungile's name; a copy of the paid bill will be shared in the updates. Where the $150 goes: • Heating arrears: $120 • Reconnection and late fees: $20 • Down payment on a payment plan: $10 I hope life is good to you.

Updates from Lungile

  1. Quick update: $28 raised so far (19%). I met with the utility company and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($25 in total) I made the first payment toward reconnection and late fees. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
