The electricity account is 2 months behind. Karanja received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on August unless $100 is paid. He had never been late before May's medical emergency. Karanja called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $10 first, which isn't available. The household includes a disabled brother, and going through the rainy season without electricity isn't safe. The children would have no light to study by.
