The electricity and water account is 3 months behind. I received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on September unless I pay $250. I have never been late before losing my job in June.
I called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $30 first, which I don't have.
I live with a disabled brother, and going through winter without electricity and water isn't safe. Without it we can't refrigerate insulin and food, or keep the house at a safe temperature.
I'm working on getting back on my feet, and will pay forward whatever help I can once I'm steady.
The money will go directly to the utility provider, and I'll post the paid statement here.

• Gas arrears: $180
• Reconnection and late fees: $20
• Down payment on a payment plan: $50

Hope things get better soon. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Thinking of Ekurhuleni.
