The electricity and water account is 3 months behind. I received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on December unless I pay $200. I have never been late before losing my job in August. I called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $45 first, which I don't have. I live with an elderly mother, and going through winter without electricity and water isn't safe. We would also lose the ability to run the medical equipment at home. I'm working on getting back on my feet, and will pay forward whatever help I can once I'm steady. Every dollar goes to the account in Rosa's name; a copy of the paid bill will be shared in the updates. Where the $200 goes: • Electricity arrears: $95 • Reconnection and late fees: $30 • Down payment on a payment plan: $75 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Updates from Rosa

  1. Small update. $90 so far, I made the first payment toward down payment on a payment plan.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($184 in total) I met with the utility company and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Hope it all works out. This could happen to any of us. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Thinking of Medellín.

    • Stay strong. Your post was clear and honest. I'll check back for the next update. Greetings from Surabaya.
