Eko's kidney cancer treatment fund

Eko is facing kidney cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Eko was diagnosed with kidney cancer in May. The oncology team at Jakarta University Hospital has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in August. He will be away from work for about 12 weeks. Eko is 29, worked as a bakery worker until May, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Jakarta University Hospital 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $1,750 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $920 • Scans and lab work: $270 • Transport to Jakarta University Hospital: $120 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $110 • Household costs while unable to work: $330 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

  • Best of luck, Maya. Shared it with a few friends. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Riyadh.

    • Hope you get there. Wish I lived closer to Nottingham so I could bring a meal.

      • take care, Maya. This could happen to any of us.
