In July I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My oncology team at Anaheim Cancer Centre has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 12 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 51, I worked as a bank teller until July, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Anaheim Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $6,150 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $3,950 • Transport to Anaheim Cancer Centre: $460 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,740 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.
