Don't let Sharon's family go through the cold months without electricity

Sharon is behind on electricity bills after my partner leaving the household and needs $650 to avoid a shut-off.

The electricity account is 4 months behind. I received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on November unless I pay $650. I have never been late before my partner leaving the household. I called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $175 first, which I don't have. I live with three children under ten, and going through the cold months without electricity isn't safe. We would also lose the ability to run the medical equipment at home. I'm working on getting back on my feet, and will pay forward whatever help I can once I'm steady. The money will go directly to the utility provider, and I'll post the paid statement here. Where the $650 goes: • Gas arrears: $400 • Reconnection and late fees: $135 • Down payment on a payment plan: $115 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

    • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Sharon!

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. gas arrears comes first ($400) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Happy to explain more.

    • Hope things get better soon, Sharon. I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. Thinking of Brampton.

      • sending strength. Your post was clear and honest. After 6 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

        • Keep going, Sharon. This could happen to any of us. I hope November is when things finally get easier. Blessings.

          • hope things get better soon. Looking forward to the next update. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from Calamba.

            • Best of luck, Sharon. Shared this with my family. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out. Greetings from Rochester.
