Don't let Joya's family go through winter without electricity

Joya is behind on electricity bills after losing my job in August and needs $55 to avoid a shut-off.

The electricity account is 2 months behind. Joya received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on November unless $55 is paid. She had never been late before losing my job in August. Joya called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $15 first, which isn't available. The household includes a newborn, and going through winter without electricity isn't safe. We can't cook, keep medicine cold or heat the home. Joya is working on getting back on her feet, and wants to pay it forward once steady. The money will go directly to the utility provider, and I'll post the paid statement here. Where the $55 goes: • Gas arrears: $35 • Reconnection and late fees: $15 • Down payment on a payment plan: $5 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Love from Coyoacán.

    • Good luck, Maliha. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Take care
