After a deviated septum causing chronic infections, Diya was cleared for valve repair surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In January I was diagnosed with a deviated septum causing chronic infections. My surgeon at Saint Mary Hospital recommended valve repair surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for April. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $8,000, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $4,750 short. Doctors at Saint Mary Hospital told me a deviated septum causing chronic infections will get worse without valve repair surgery. I work as a market vendor, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $8,000 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a market vendor have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $4,750 goes: • Post-operative medication: $400 • Travel and lodging for the family: $145 • Hospital stay (2 nights): $2,250 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,955 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($829 in total) I met with the hospital and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
