Dignity in old age: caring for Yiannis
Yiannis, 86, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $2,850 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 86. After a stroke last October Yiannis can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Yiannis desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Yiannis worked all of his life as a shopkeeper, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for six months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $2,850 goes:
• Part-time carer (six months): $2,150
• Medication and prescriptions: $280
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $240
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $180
