Dignity in old age: caring for Uchenna
Uchenna, 81, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $750 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for me, who's 81. After the death of his spouse Uchenna can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Uchenna desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Uchenna worked all of his life as a shopkeeper, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for six months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $750 goes:
• Part-time carer (six months): $480
• Medication and prescriptions: $90
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $75
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $105
