Dignity in old age: caring for Terry
Terry, 84, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $3,850 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 84. After a heart attack Terry can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Terry desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Terry worked all of his life as a nurse, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $3,850 goes:
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $420
• Part-time carer (eight months): $2,800
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $630
