Dignity in old age: caring for Swetha
Swetha, 94, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $700 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 94. After worsening Parkinson's disease Swetha can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Swetha desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Swetha worked all of her life as a schoolteacher, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $700 goes:
• Medication and prescriptions: $100
• Part-time carer (three months): $570
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $30

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Swetha.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. medication and prescriptions is the biggest at $100. Thanks for asking.
