Dignity in old age: caring for Sheila
Sheila, 93, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $600 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 93. After a diagnosis of dementia Sheila can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Sheila desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Sheila worked all of her life as a factory worker, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $600 goes:
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $70
• Part-time carer (eight months): $440
• Medication and prescriptions: $90
