Dignity in old age: caring for Sérgio
Sérgio cannot afford the care He needs after a stroke last February; we are asking for $400.

I'm caring for my father, who's 86. After a stroke last February Sérgio can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Sérgio desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Sérgio worked all of his life as a seamstress, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $400 goes:
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $150
• Medication and prescriptions: $140
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $110
