Dignity in old age: caring for Ruslan
Ruslan, 86, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $500 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 86. After the death of his spouse Ruslan can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Ruslan desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Ruslan worked all of his life as a carpenter, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $500 goes:
• Medication and prescriptions: $180
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $135
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $185

The list at the bottom is the whole picture. medication and prescriptions is the biggest at $180. Appreciate you taking the time.
