Dignity in old age: caring for Risa
Risa, 84, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $2,750 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 84. After worsening Parkinson's disease Risa can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Risa desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Risa worked all of her life as a shopkeeper, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $2,750 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $1,650
• Medication and prescriptions: $370
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $250
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $480
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
