Dignity in old age: caring for Rémi
Rémi, 94, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $5,300 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 94. After a diagnosis of dementia Rémi can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Rémi desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Rémi worked all of his life as a factory worker, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $5,300 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $4,100
• Medication and prescriptions: $600
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $340
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $260
