Dignity in old age: caring for Mikhail
Mikhail, 77, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $900 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 77. After a heart attack Mikhail can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Mikhail desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Mikhail worked all of his life as a factory worker, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $900 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $640
• Medication and prescriptions: $105
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $80
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $75
