Dignity in old age: caring for Lucky
Lucky, 86, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $650 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 86. After the death of his spouse Lucky can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Lucky desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Lucky worked all of his life as a nurse, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $650 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $470
• Medication and prescriptions: $70
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $30
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $80
Thanks for reading all this.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Lucky.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. part-time carer (three months) is the biggest at $470. Fair thing to want to know.
Thinking of you and your family, Blessing. I hope things turn around soon. I hope May is when things finally get easier.
Wishing you the best, Blessing. Wishing Lucky a smooth procedure and a full recovery.
Praying for you, Blessing. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out.
gave what I could, wish it was more. It's not much but it's yours. Love from Chennai.
Wishing you the best. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. Please keep us posted. Thinking of Ikeja!
