Dignity in old age: caring for Lucian
Lucian, 91, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $2,400 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 91. After a stroke last June Lucian can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Lucian desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 30 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Lucian worked all of his life as a nurse, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $2,400 goes:
• Part-time carer (four months): $1,900
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $150
• Medication and prescriptions: $350
