Dignity in old age: caring for Irena
Irena, 86, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $500 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 86. After a stroke last April Irena can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Irena desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Irena worked all of her life as a bus driver, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $500 goes:
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $165
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $75
• Medication and prescriptions: $260
Every share and every dollar helps.

So sorry you're going through this. This could happen to any of us. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
