Dignity in old age: caring for Heike
Heike can't afford the care She needs after worsening Parkinson's disease; we're asking for $1,350.

I'm caring for me, who's 78. After worsening Parkinson's disease Heike can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Heike desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Heike worked all of her life as a schoolteacher, and raised 5 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• Medication and prescriptions: $530
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $290
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $530
Thank you for reading my story.
Updates from Heike
Good news. Because of your gifts ($334 in total) I made the first payment toward hospital bed and mattress rental. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
