Dignity in old age: caring for Hậu
Hậu, 84, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $950 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 84. After a stroke last September Hậu can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Hậu desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Hậu worked all of his life as a carpenter, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $950 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $750
• Medication and prescriptions: $100
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $35
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $65

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Hậu.
The list at the bottom is the whole picture. part-time carer (eight months) is the biggest at $750. Fair thing to want to know.
