I'm caring for my mother, who's 82. After a stroke last April Gugu can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Gugu desperately wants to stay at home. I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer. Gugu worked all of her life as a farmer, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back. Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for six months will make a huge difference. The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices. Where the $1,300 goes: • Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $100 • Part-time carer (six months): $1,150 • Hospital bed and mattress rental: $50 Thank you for reading my story.

  • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Gugu

    • Sure. The biggest one is mobility aids and bathroom adaptations, $100. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Fair thing to want to know.

  • Stay strong, Andile. Hope this works out for you. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Greetings from Los Angeles

    • Best of luck. Get well soon. I'm in engineering myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Greetings from Quezon City.

      • Hang in there, Andile. Looking forward to the next update. My husband and I read this together. All the best.
