Dignity in old age: caring for Enrique
Enrique, 87, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $1,100 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 87. After worsening Parkinson's disease Enrique can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Enrique desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Enrique worked all of his life as a nurse, and raised 3 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $730
• Medication and prescriptions: $150
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $125
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $95
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.
