Dignity in old age: caring for Danuta
Danuta, 93, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $2,750 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for me, who's 93. After worsening Parkinson's disease Danuta can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Danuta desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Danuta worked all of her life as a factory worker, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $2,750 goes:
• Part-time carer (four months): $2,200
• Medication and prescriptions: $290
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $105
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $155

The list at the bottom is the whole picture. part-time carer (four months) is the biggest at $2,200. Fair thing to want to know.
