Dignity in old age: caring for Bas
Bas, 95, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $3,250 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 95. After the death of his spouse Bas can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Bas desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Bas worked all of his life as a nurse, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $3,250 goes:
• Part-time carer (four months): $2,200
• Medication and prescriptions: $340
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $420
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $290

The list at the bottom is the whole picture. part-time carer (four months) is the biggest at $2,200.
