Dignity in old age: caring for Ayu
Ayu, 93, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $850 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 93. After a stroke last August Ayu can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Ayu desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Ayu worked all of her life as a bus driver, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $850 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $710
• Medication and prescriptions: $50
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $90

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Ayu!
Sure. The biggest one is part-time carer (three months), $710. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Fair thing to want to know.
