Dignity in old age: caring for Angel
Angel, 89, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $5,150 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my father, who's 89. After a diagnosis of dementia Angel can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Angel desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 25 hours a week and have cut back to look after him, but we need a part-time carer.
Angel worked all of his life as a carpenter, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for eight months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $5,150 goes:
• Part-time carer (eight months): $3,500
• Medication and prescriptions: $750
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $280
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $620
