Dignity in old age: caring for Aisling
Aisling, 78, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $3,050 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 78. After a diagnosis of dementia Aisling can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Aisling desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Aisling worked all of her life as a schoolteacher, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $3,050 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $1,750
• Medication and prescriptions: $520
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $250
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $530

Hope things get better soon, Oonagh. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.

Sure. The biggest one is part-time carer (three months), $1,750. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Fair thing to want to know.
