Dignity in old age: caring for Afia
Afia, 93, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $650 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 93. After a diagnosis of dementia Afia can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Afia desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 50 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Afia worked all of her life as a nurse, and raised 2 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for four months will make a huge difference.
The carer will be employed through a registered agency and paid directly. I'll share the agency invoices.
Where the $650 goes:
• Part-time carer (four months): $520
• Medication and prescriptions: $80
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $50
Every share and every dollar helps.
Updates from Diana
Quick update: $30 raised so far (5%). I met with the care agency and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
