Dignity in old age: caring for Aarti
Aarti, 87, needs daily care to stay at home, and the family is raising $800 for a carer and medicines.

I'm caring for my mother, who's 87. After a stroke last September Aarti can no longer manage alone. A nursing home would cost far more than we have, and Aarti desperately wants to stay at home.
I work 40 hours a week and have cut back to look after her, but we need a part-time carer.
Aarti worked all of her life as a seamstress, and raised 4 children. Now we're trying to give some of that care back.
Medication, a hospital bed and a carer for three months will make a huge difference.
Funds cover the carer's wages, medicines, a hospital bed rental and incontinence supplies.
Where the $800 goes:
• Part-time carer (three months): $540
• Medication and prescriptions: $80
• Hospital bed and mattress rental: $85
• Mobility aids and bathroom adaptations: $95
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
