Cox's Bazar
The fire in the settlement hit the families of Eastgate Lane on 3 July. My home was one of 70 damaged, and 13 families are still in temporary shelter at a borrowed warehouse. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $600 goes: • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $165 • Clean water and purification supplies: $130 • Tools and labor for repairs: $155 • Food parcels for displaced families: $150 Thanks for being kind about this. - Jewel

    • Hope things get better soon, Jewel. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.

      • keep going, Jewel. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.

          • Best of luck, Jewel. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Love from Sukkur

            • Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. After 30 years in hospitality I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

              • You're not alone, Jewel. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Thinking of Cox's Bazar.

                • Rooting for you, Jewel. Shared it with a few friends. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. All the best.
