Could you share an hour a week with Meir?

An hour a week, a chat, and a cup of tea - that's all Meir is asking for.

I'm writing for my neighbor Meir, who's 76. Meir lives alone in Haifa, and lost a sister last year. The nearest family lives a long flight away. Meir loves gardening, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Tuesday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

  • Hope things get better soon. Get well soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Thinking of Haifa.

    • Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I went through something like this 10 years ago and strangers helped me out

      • So sorry you're going through this, Rachel. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend.
