Companionship wanted: Jaxon's cricket and a cup of tea

Looking for a friendly person in Bakersfield to visit Jaxon once a week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Jaxon, who's 84. Jaxon lives alone in Bakersfield, and lost a sister last year. The nearest family lives 893 kilometers away. Jaxon loves cricket, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Sunday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

          • Hope it all works out. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Wish I lived closer to São Paulo so I could bring a meal. All the best

            • So sorry you're going through this, Maria. Your post was clear and honest. After 30 years in construction I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

              • Sending strength, Maria. Looking forward to the next update. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Take care!

                • Thanks for sharing this, Maria. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Thinking of Bakersfield.

                  • Praying for you, Maria. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Put this on a community board in Peoria this morning. God bless.
