Clean water and shade for Ottawa: restoring the Cedar riverbank
Volunteers are restoring the Cedar riverbank in Ottawa; $2,500 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇨🇦 Ontario, Canada1,324 views
The Cedar riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This November, 61 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 66 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,600
• Tools and protective gear: $440
• Waste removal and skip hire: $460
Thanks for being kind about this.

Good luck. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Greetings from Mandaue
Rooting for you. This could happen to any of us. Wish I lived closer to Novosibirsk so I could bring a meal. All the best.
Rooting for you, Jean. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Take care.
