Clean water and shade for Bristol: restoring the Pioneer wetland

A neighborhood-led restoration of the Pioneer wetland needs $1,500 for saplings and equipment.

Bristol
The Pioneer wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 38 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 133 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage. Where the $1,500 goes: • Signage and educational materials: $120 • Native saplings and stakes: $810 • Waste removal and skip hire: $570 I hope life is good to you.

Updates from Janet

  1. Update from Bristol: we've started the first stage. We're at 25% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Thank you all. We're at 5% now ($70). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward waste removal and skip hire.
