Clean water and shade for Bang Khen: restoring Union Beach
A neighborhood-led restoration of Union Beach needs $300 for saplings and equipment.
🇹🇭 Bangkok, Thailand1,109 views
Union Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 107 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 159 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $150
• Waste removal and skip hire: $65
• Tools and protective gear: $85
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

thanks for sharing this, Fon. Great idea, hope you get there. Thinking of Bang Khen.
Keep going. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.
best of luck, Fon. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. After 26 years in construction I know how hard it is to ask for anything.
Wishing you peace. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. All the best.
this could happen to any of us. I hope May is when things finally get easier. All the best.
