Clean streets and rivers for Kampala: restoring the Freedom canal
Help us clean and replant the Freedom canal before the November planting window closes.
🇺🇬 Kampala, Central Region, Uganda827 views
The Freedom canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 111 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 118 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $25
• Signage and educational materials: $35
• Native saplings and stakes: $240
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

thinking of you, Kimani. More neighborhoods should do this. We're a small family in Los Angeles but we're thinking of you. God bless.
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Thinking of Kampala.
Praying for you. Great idea, hope you get there!
