Clean streets and rivers for Guarulhos: restoring the Freedom wetland
Help us clean and replant the Freedom wetland before the October planting window closes.
🇧🇷 Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil717 views
The Freedom wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 74 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 129 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $750 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $420
• Tools and protective gear: $175
• Waste removal and skip hire: $100
• Signage and educational materials: $55
Thanks for being kind about this.

More neighborhoods should do this. I'm in farming myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you.
Sending strength. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best
Thinking of you. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Wish I lived closer to Xalapa so I could bring a meal. Love from Adama.
Take care. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Put this on a community board in San Diego this morning.
Take care, Roberto. This could happen to any of us. Greetings from Dublin
