The Maple wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 82 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 199 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage. Where the $300 goes: • Native saplings and stakes: $165 • Tools and protective gear: $40 • Waste removal and skip hire: $70 • Signage and educational materials: $25 Every share and every dollar helps.

So sorry you're going through this, David. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. God bless.

        • is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for David

          • David OkelloOwnerAnswerPhoto verified

Sure. The biggest one is native saplings and stakes, $165. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.

        • You're not alone, David. More neighborhoods should do this. I'm in engineering myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you.

Take care. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.

            • You're not alone. I hope things turn around soon. After 24 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Athens
