Clean streets and rivers for Accra: restoring the Unity hillside
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Unity hillside needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇬🇭 Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana629 views
The Unity hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 89 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 189 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $185
• Waste removal and skip hire: $90
• Tools and protective gear: $75
With deep gratitude,
Hannah

Good luck, Hannah. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Mohammedia
you're not alone, Hannah. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. God bless!
So sorry you're going through this, Hannah. More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Accra.
Praying for you. Hope this works out for you. It's not much but it's yours. Blessings
You're not alone, Hannah. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Greetings from Malmö.
