Clean streams for Oakland: restoring Union Creek
A neighborhood-led restoration of Union Creek needs $3,350 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 Oakland, California, United States4,287 views
Union Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 71 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 78 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $3,350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,600
• Tools and protective gear: $730
• Waste removal and skip hire: $950
• Signage and educational materials: $70
Glad we found this place.

31% there. I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Thank you.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($574 in total) I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

You're not alone, Kaylee. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. After 12 years in engineering I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Latina.
Good luck, Kaylee. Great idea, hope you get there. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.
