Clean streams for Kadıköy: restoring the Sycamore riverbank
Volunteers are restoring the Sycamore riverbank in Kadıköy; $300 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇹🇷 Kadıköy, Istanbul, Türkiye1,197 views
The Sycamore riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 46 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 148 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $65
• Native saplings and stakes: $220
• Signage and educational materials: $15
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Thank you all. We're at 62% now ($186). I'm honestly stunned. the plan for native saplings and stakes is now scheduled.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($126 in total) the plan for signage and educational materials is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($20 in total) I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
